Dear Friends,

This Sunday is the fourth Sunday of Easter. Every year, we hear about God as the Good Shepherd, and we recite some version of Psalm 23: “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not be in want. He makes me lie down in green pastures and leads me beside still waters.”

Notice the bucolic imagery used in the Psalm – green pastures and still waters. Again and again, creation points to its Maker. Whether in poetry, a walk on a valley, or a voyage on a sailboat, creation glorifies God.

This Monday is Earth Day. While we don’t celebrate it in the church, our liturgy constantly uses the metaphors of creation and materiality to point to God’s beauty and wonder. And next week, in partnership with The Healthy Earth Organization, we will have a garden that teaches children and the community good stewardship of God’s creation. The garden will be built during the week, and next Saturday the seeds will be planted. You all are welcome to help out or just stop by and celebrate along with our friends in the community.

God bless you all.

Peace,
Fr. Jonathan Evans
